The Help for Missionary group, a prominent organization in the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio, has called on parents to actively support their children’s spiritual development. The group emphasizes the importance of nurturing biblical values and strengthening faith through prayer and singing.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Sr. Gamboripai Hellen Nickola, the coordinator for the Pontifical Mission for Holy Childhood in the diocese, expressed her gratitude to parents who have allowed their children to join the group.
“This group allows children to practice the word of God, which they learn from catechists. It not only deepens their commitment to church activities but also fosters a sense of purpose,” Sister Hellen stated.
She also underscored the critical role the children play in fostering relationships within the community. Members of the group often visit sick children and pregnant mothers in hospitals and homes, offering prayers and encouragement. “These children bring spiritual healing and strengthen bonds between the church and the ailing,” she added.
Sister Hellen urged parents to encourage children under the age of 14 to join the group, citing its motto, “Children help children,” as a testament to its mission of fostering mutual support and growth. She emphasized that the group helps children grow into responsible and spiritually grounded individuals.
Mama Mbembe Maria, a parent whose child is a member of the group, expressed her appreciation for the children's pastoral work. She recounted how the group’s visit to her hospital bedside during her battle with asthma brought her immense comfort. “The children’s prayers and presence gave me hope. I encourage other mothers to let their children join this group for spiritual and personal growth,” she said.
For Mborikino Lucy Joseph, a young member of the group that joining was a personal decision inspired by the teachings of the sisters. “I found joy and purpose in what they taught us. It has helped me grow closer to God,” Lucy shared.
The Help for Missionary group is dedicated to children aged 14 to 17 and aims to shape their spiritual lives and prepare them for adulthood. With activities centered on faith, community service, and moral development, the group continues to serve as a cornerstone for nurturing future leaders in the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio.
