Senior Four Students in Yambio Seek Blessings and Inspiration through Bishop Gasi
Students from five secondary schools in Yambio on Saturday 20th March 2021 visited the tomb of the late Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, Titarani Joseph Gasi Abangite. The aim of their visit was to seek inspirations, blessings, and intercession of Bishop Gasi ahead of their National exams which are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 22nd, 2021.
The students lined up at the tomb, kneeling down and touching the tomb as they pray to ask God through the intercession of Bishop Gasi to bless them.
This has turned out to be a tradition since Bishop Gasi passed on in 2013. Every year his tomb has never been lonely as faithful keep flocking at the tomb to pray for his intercessions and seek blessings. Candidates for various examinations have therefore not been left behind.
Bishop Gasi was the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio and he lived an exemplary life, which has since inspired many.
“He touched the lives of all of us and helped us know God and be close to Him,” explains Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala who succeeded Bishop Gasi.
Bishop Gasi was also the patron of education in the whole region of Sudan and South Sudan and because of that he helped and encouraged many young people to go to school. He opened many schools and made many young people appreciate the education.
“The many educational institutions that have been opened particularly here in Yambio are credited to him. The diocese for instance has a school dedicated to him which goes by the name, Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite College of Science and Technology,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed adding that this is among the best school in the area where quite a number of students are known to report the best examination results which have propelled them to go for higher education levels.
Many of the candidates who have prayed at Bishop Gasi’s tomb ahead of their exams in the past are known to have recorded good results which they attribute to the intercessions and blessings from Bishop Gasi. This has encouraged candidates to visit and pray at the tomb of Bishop Gasi.
“We are praying with these candidates and wishing them all success. I thank their parents who raised them well in the ways of God and for supporting them to complete their secondary education,” Bishop Hiiboro said.
