The Sudan Relief Fund Program’s Director Mr. David Dettoni, has assured South Sudanese they are not forgotten in this time of COVID 19 and that they have people in America who love them and who wants them to be prosperous and to be able to worship freely, to thrive and to have a better future.
“We want to invest in people like Bishop Edwardo and others who can implement and help their people improve their living conditions and live better both spiritually and physically,” Mr. Dettoni said in an interview with Rurugene Online News in Juba, where he was meeting with His Lordship Barani Edwardo to discuss with him and to see what the needs are for his diocese as well as to evaluate the ongoing projects they have funded before just to see how things are going.
“I am here to evaluate the old and the new project, not just in the diocese but throughout South Sudan and also Sudan where we are allowed to operate. The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio is a priority for us and we believe in Bishop Edwardo, his vision for the people and the love that he has for the people and this is a top priority for us, it is one of the bright lights for us in South Sudan,” Mr. Dettoni said.
“Sudan Relief Fund has worked with me for the last 12 years and they have been very supportive of our programs, from pastoral to social and as a result, so much has been realized. The support to the priests, the religious sisters and the seminaries, support to the catechists, and also church constructions including priests’ residents. We are very grateful to them,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed.
He said that the organization has been supportive in social areas especially in education where they sponsored the constructions of classrooms in some of the diocese’s secondary schools. At the same time, they have also supported the diocesan hospital, St. Teresa Hospital. Apart from these, the Sudan Relief Fund has worked with the Church on peace interventions in Western Equatoria.
Apart from the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, the organization has been very supportive of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference’s activities as well as the national major seminary.
They have also been supporting other communities in Sudan such as the Nuba Mountains as well as the Church in El Obeid.
According to Bishop Hiiboro, SRF has not only stopped in Sudan and South Sudan, but they have also followed the Sudanese refugees in Uganda, at Bidi Bidi Refugee settlement camp, Ajumani, and others in Arua.
“What is unique about the organization is that they work through the local partners; they do not have offices of their own with employees, but rather work through the local partners; strengthening the capacities of the different local organizations within the country. So we are grateful for their services.”
