Local Authorities in “Nambia One Boma in Nzara County of Western Equatoria State on Tuesday 1st October 2024 reported that an unknown individual set ablaze a primary health care unit built by the local community in the area. The facility, constructed to provide essential medical services to the area, was reduced to ashes.
“We woke up in the morning to find the facility burnt to ashes. We don't know why anyone would do this”, Mr. Basare Joseph Juma, a youth leader in Nambia One, noted.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the unidentified perpetrator broke into the health care unit and set fire to the grass-thatched roof.
The health care center was recently completed and was expected to receive a crucial consignment of medical supplies on Wednesday from the Nzara County health department.
Juma emphasized that the motive behind the arson remains unknown, but it has left the community in a difficult situation as they await medical assistance.
Vincent Zekino Felix, the sub-chief of Nambia One, described the act as “unfortunate” given the health center's importance to the community.
“This facility was vital, especially due to its proximity to Nzara town”, Zekino explained.
