Episcopal Archbishop of Western Equatoria Internal Provence Underscores the Importance of Legal Christian Marriages among South Sudanese.

The Archbishop of Western Equatoria Internal Province for Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) Most Rev. Samuel Enosa Peni has urged South Sudanese to seek legal and Christian marriages saying that it has a positive impact on families.

Speaking during a service at All Saints Cathedral in Yambio, Archbishop Enosa said that there is room for respect, genuine love, and care for each other as well as peaceful coexistence among families when marriages are conducted in legal and Christian ways.

“Lack of proper marriages among the young people in Western Equatoria State and in South Sudan at large has given room to serious crimes such as rape, adultery and to capital offenses such as murder,” Archbishop Enosa said adding that drug abuse cases have been on the rise among young people due to frustrations arising from unstable marriages and families of which children and women bear the big brunt.

Rev. Pastor Foste Sanango, echoes the sentiments of the Archbishop saying that more often than not, they have been at the center of solving problems arising from family members who do come to seek advice and solutions to a myriad of marital and family conflicts.

“Some of these misunderstandings often lead to divorces and broken homes,” Pastor Sanango said adding that the demand for high dowry payments, economic crisis, and the recent insecurity in South Sudan is the most contributed factor that has seen marriages disintegrating. He further expressed that many young people are unable to get married because they are not in positions to afford the dowry to pay for their marriages.
