Catholic Education Day in the CDTY is an annual celebration that offers opportunity for the people of Western Equatoria to pray to Almighty God for all people involved in Education sector. The theme of this year celebration is “Quality and Holistic Education for Enlightening the Mind”.

Referencing his message from the letter St. Paul to Ephesian and the Gospel of St. John, Bishop Eduardo stressed that “Jesus Christ, and the revelation of his word, is ‘the foundation of the whole educational enterprise in a Catholic schools”.  He further added that the revelation of Jesus gives new meaning to life and helps man direct his thought, action and will according to the Gospel.

“In his Monday October 10th statement, the prelate acknowledged that the Catholic Education is built on the belief that it is God our Father who enlightens the eyes of our minds whether in homes, school, college and Universities”.

“The enterprise of Catholic education, whether in the home, school, college or university, is built on the belief that it is God our Father who enlightens the eyes of our minds”.

Bishop Eduardo in his statement opined that truth enlightens our intelligence and shapes our freedom and Catholic Education facilitates truth and wisdom, “truth enlightens our intelligence and shapes our freedom, leading us to know and love God. A Catholic education facilitates truth and freedom above all when it places the Eternal Word of God, Jesus Christ, at its center.”

“When blessed with enlightened minds, not only are students able to learn to grow and walk in the light of truth but they can share, too, the freedom and hope it brings with their family, their communities and, as they pursue their vocation, with the world in which they live and work”.

Reflecting on the Gospel, Bishop Kussala said that the Gospel acclamation affirms that when we enlightened our minds we can see the great hope that God calls for us, appreciating the late Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite who worked hard to the place the person of Jesus Christ at the center of their work in educational institutions and to make them centers of enlightenment, hope and virtue.

He also encouraged the staff in Catholic Schools, colleges and universities and prays that their lives may be enlightened always by the truth which comes from the Eternal Word of God.
