A Beacon of Peace: St. Mary Primary School Yambio's Remarkable Football Match

Within the heart of the Western Equatorial State, a remarkable event unfolded on the grounds of St. Mary Primary School on Friday, 15th March 2024. What began as a friendly football match between teachers and pupils transcended the boundaries of sport, evolving into a powerful symbol of unity and peace within the community.

Under the guidance of Fr. Elia Kanido Alfred Zomai, the headteacher of St. Mary Primary School, the match took on a profound significance, serving as a beacon of hope in a region often marred by conflict and division. Fr. Elia's impassioned plea for unity resonated deeply with both teachers and pupils, igniting a collective sense of purpose and responsibility as ambassadors of peace.

“I urged both teachers and pupils that we are all one, let us Come together to work and build a peaceful co-existence, both teachers and pupils at St. Mary Primary School Yambio are the Ambassadors of Peace in Western Equatorial State Yambio”, Fr. Elia narrated.

As the match kicked off, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation and excitement. Cheers erupted from the sidelines as players from both teams showcased their skills with determination and zeal. Yet, amidst the spirited competition, there was an underlying sense of unity a recognition that, regardless of the outcome, the true victory lay in coming together as a community.

The scoreboard told a tale of closely contested goals, with the teachers ultimately clinching victory with four goals, closely trailed by the pupils with three. However, it was not the final score that left a lasting impression, but rather the unity and solidarity displayed on the field.

Fr. Elia's words echoed in the hearts of all present, urging them to embrace their roles as agents of change and champions of peace. His call to love and serve with dedication underscored the profound impact that each individual, whether teacher or pupil, could have in shaping a brighter future for Yambio and beyond.

“I told both teachers and pupils at St. Mary Primary School Yambio to love the service which the Lord has called them to do with love, and commitment, to eradicate poverty of ignorance among the people of Yambio as well as South Sudan at large”, Fr. Elia explained.

 The event organized under the theme, "Sustainable Livelihoods and Safeguarding Water through Environmental Care," spoke to the broader mission of fostering harmony with the environment and promoting the well-being of all. Through their participation in the match, teachers and pupils alike embodied this ethos, recognizing the interconnectedness of human flourishing and environmental stewardship.

“I organized that football Match as a sign of peace and Unity among teachers and pupils in St Mary's Primary School Yambio under the Theme:  Sustainable Livelihoods and, Safeguard Water through Care Environmental”.
