The Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio (CDTY) headed by Bishop Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala has launched the beginning of farming season in the diocese with the sole objective to increase food production, a crucial step towards addressing food security in the state.
The launching took place in the morning of Saturday at St Joseph minor seminary Maingbangaru, as the seminarians have been urged to take agriculture seriously besides pursuing academic journey.
“So, brothers I am giving the enouncement to you so that you can carry this as a practice. So let us work to feed ourselves and then do the surplus”, Hiiboro asserted.
According to Bishop Hiiboro, the launching of the exercise sounds as call to all the parishes under the CDTY to exploit the soil they have and plant varieties of seeds.
“Today in our diocese we are launching farming season, never feel shy to work in the garden be proud of it”, Hiiboro emphasized.
For his part, the diocesan vicar general, father Thomas Bagbiowia, reminded Christians of the diocesan slogan that emphasizes on farming and Bible. Bagbiowia said in order to eliminate and minimize poverty, everyone should embrace farming as a priority in life.
“We must solve our problems by ourselves, by providing food for ourselves because nobody will come and solve for us the issue of food”, Bagbiowia added.
On the other hand, the diocesan director for agriculture and development Fr. Bie Emmanuel underscored the importance of farming for the diocese, stating that through faming the diocese can uplift to a certain level in terms of food security.
“Through faming we shall be able to promote the diocese, through farming we shall be able to uplift our country to a certain level. So, we pray that the exercise that we begin today will be the exercise that will carry on throughout the diocese and throughout the season”.
Some of the seminarians at the launch, described the initiative as a great lesson as they journey towards the priestly hood.
